Thought I would get the ball rolling here - I am a member of a great book club and we are just finishing 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' and am loving it !!! Honestly its so brutally honest in places - talk about a family saga !!! And its a must for anyone with a sister !!! We're then moving on to The Sea - John Bandville - a bit of a slog from what I hear !!!

Yes I am a bit of a light reader too - bit of chick lit as its called and I am in heaven. Love a bit of Maeve Binchy and Cathy Kelly!!
Regarding good books I am finding the Miriam Stoppard books fantastic - the toddler book is a lifeline.

Well Noreen where do I start !!! I suppose it depends on the mood you are in but here are a few of my favourite books ... (sorry forgotton some of the authors!
Memories of a Geisha (just amazing, easy read and a wonderful story)
Seabiscuit - Laura Hillerbrand (this is a book about a horse - now I know nothing about horses or have any interest in them - but this book blew me away ;D ;D I was up at night cheering him on !! And finally.....
The Kite Runner - a wonderful story of a boy born in Afganistan!
Give them a try - I'm not a great fan of popular fiction as I love more modern literature or classical fiction !!!! ;D Not that I am taking from anyone else who loves chick lit. - but I suppose we all have our preferences !!!! ;D

I'm not a reader at all - only read when I'm on holidays. Love Patricia Cornwall. Read the autobiography of Heather Mills (Mc Cartney) and if you never heard of her you would be forgiven for thinking her book was total fiction because of the stuff that happened to her and her family. having married Paul McCartney, I'm sure she has the makings of another book in there. One time, I was on holidays in Italy and read all the books I had brought: the only english book I could find there was a trilogy by Maeve Binchy - I cringed reading it and thought I could write better than that. So, 5-6 years ago I did start writing my own book and as of today it's still unfinished. I've shown it to avid readers to comment on and they all want to know what happens in the end - well I don't know - I keep meaning to get back to it to finish but never seem to find the time. If I do buy a book, it's normally true life - I have Marilyn monroes story - trying to keep up with her is a challenge. I've read the Harold Shipman story - and I love Roddy Doyle.

That is hilarious about your book !!! So there you are with a best seller under your bed - unfinished ...... and so what really does happen in the end !!!!! I have to say that I did like Maeve's book - Circle of Friends but the Lilac Bus was truely awful - so I know what you mean. Just finished a Dan Brown book - Digital Fortress and it was perfect as a chill out read !!!

My book club is on tomorrow night and I have just finished 'The Sea' by John Banville. Have to say that I didn't like it - I didn't have any sense of empathy for the characters - so I lost total interest in it. Finished it only because I had to. Give this one a miss !!!

Just finished an interesting book called 'Prep' by Curtis Sittenfeld- its a cross between Harry Potter and Malory Towers (its about a teenager in a bording school if you get my meaning) - nicely written but a little too much over analysing !!!!
