Childcare is such a mine-field Ann. Its every parents worst nightmare if it goes wrong. As to whether you would prefer a creche or private childminder - its simply a matter of what service would suit your family best. (Be careful some creches have a policy of 5 days only )
So a few basic tips I would advise are:
For Childminders:
Ask for recommendations from family, friends and neighbours first; Its lovely to be able to leave your child with someone you know or other people can vouch for.
If that doesn't work - put local ad in shop or newsletter;
For Creche's:
Check out location; Child / childcare worker ratio; Facilities; And a certain amount of flexibility given that you will be working only part-time.
Hope I have been of help !! Best of luck with your search. ;D

I used a Creche when my kids were small and found that it worked out brilliantly. The only advice I have is that I searched around for a flexable one as I wasn't working full -time and my days changed from time to time but they were great about it. So maybe you could keep that in mind and the best of luck with your search.
