I honestly don't know what has happened to my son in the last year - but he has gone from being the sweetest boy to this horror ! He is so moody - spends far too much time in his room, hardly says anything to me anymore - so whats happening??? How could he have changed so much - does anyone else have teenagers and have they survived them

All I can say is (as mine aren't teenagers yet-thank God!!) I remember my Mom asking me was I growing something in my bedroom as I pretty much lived there for about 3 years!!!. I was listening to music, writing letters, (we had no p.c's then!), dying my hair! It's a phase. Leave a sandwich outside the door. It'll be appreciated!

What psychologists say is that the 'terrible two's' and the 'teenager years' can often be quite similiar ! Both of those stages symbolise a moving away from the parent - becoming a more independent person.
So while he appears Noreen to be rejecting you - what he is doing in fact is trying to discover who he is - and he does this by spending lots of time on his own or with friends. But never forget he is still watching you and listening - so my suggestion is to be yourself, be consistant, (you are not his best friend, you are his Mother)keep the communication channels open and be a patient as possible - the teenage phase does come to an end - and out of it will emerge your son - as an amazing adult!

Not at that stage yet - but I was a 'goth' as a teenager and a large one at that ! I was a nightmare. But you may be glad to hear that i have turned out fine ..... well I am no longer a 'goth' if thats any good to you. How my parents put up with me but they did and I am grateful that they ignored much of my behaviour as it really is only a phase. I get on really well with them today. You have no idea of how ridicious I looked back then!!!!

What a relief to hear that - because I feel that I have just got on to a giant rollercoaster and dread the journey ahead. When did you come out it?
